A Recital by and with Fatima Scialdone

A woman’s voice, her thoughts, feelings, passions, bitterness, and happiness.
A journey that starts in America and, through France, Spain, and Germany, ends in Italy, in Sicily and Campania. Where Mount Vesuvius and Mount Etna proudly stand up against the horizon, where the colours of love become brighter, daringly getting more and more similar to the fiery red of volcanic eruptions… Where the contrast between laughter and tears marks the passing days.

‘MY VOICE’, that is, the voice of a woman from Southern Italy, the urge to depict the magic female universe, by singing songs that have made us dream or have effectively expressed our feelings, pains, bonds, and longings.

‘Woman’ means mother, lover, and daughter.
Woman as a byword for fascination and courage, in the words of great poets such as Euripides, E. Morante, Tagore and R. Barbera, or in letters laden with utter despair such as that written for A. Magnani (unpublished) and those by C. Di Costanzo.

The voice of a timeless and ageless woman, in a world that ignores national or regional boundaries, in a female universe full of love, where ‘MY VOICE’ collects the voices and the contributions of normal women that day after day struggle, love, give birth to children, and hence prove to be extraordinary characters fully entitled to sing freely about the past, the present, and, perhaps, a better future.

When the audience is not made of Italian speaking people, the show includes alternative songs and texts, linked to the subject but different from those usually performed in Italian or in the dialects spoken in Naples, Sicily, and Rome.
